Ivan Rodriguez was traded to the Yankees for Kyle Farnsworth. The return of the Farnz to Detroit. The wife will love it. (She saw him warming up at Wrigley when he was a Cub.) As for me, I'm OK with the trade.
Detroit knows what they are getting in Farnsworth. The near universal loathing of him by Yankee fans does not bother me. He's better than Todd Jones or any other Tiger reliever. Importantly for the Tigers, they get something of value for Pudge and they lose some of his salary early.
I'll be honest. I never was that huge of a Pudge fan. I have no reason to dislike him. All he did in Detroit was continue posting HOF numbers until last year. In exchange for a boatload of money, he took a chance on Detroit with Dave Dombrowski. Pudge did everything that was asked of him and turned out to be a class act.
When he came to Motown, the Tigers had just lost 113 games and were drawing just over 10,000 fans a game. He took him to the post-season as he promised and now they sell out games. He is undeniably a winner.
